Job Description

At Diversified Construction Safety, the Construction Safety Manager plays an important role in assisting construction personnel. While construction workers focus on finishing jobs and delivering excellent projects to the company's clients, Construction Safety Managers help them to stay focused on completing those projects in a safe manner. We work for the General Contractor and subcontractors to get a snapshot of the project at that moment. Accident investigation and OSHA investigation are a critical part of the job, as well as generating new clientele by way of networking and referral sources.

Construction Safety Manager Duties and Responsibilities

The Construction Safety Manager assists construction crews by inspecting project sites and evaluating working conditions. They contribute to the identification of safety issues and risks on project sites. Once hazards are identified, they collaborate with project leadership to develop ways to reduce exposure to those risks. The project site visit consists of walking job sites at various stages of the project and identifying hazardous situations as well as acknowledging excellent work. In the unfortunate event of an accident, we may be called on to provide a full accident investigation and write-up, and should OSHA be involved, we will work alongside our client to assist with the situation as needed. Other Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Identifying new client opportunities to increase DCS sales, and managing existing client relationships, ensuring all jobs are completed.
  • Conducting site visits and spot audits, verifying that employees are consistently following safety protocols.
  • Managing incoming jobs and assigning them to outside safety consultants.
  • Planning health and safety programs and protocols, staying up to date on relevant health and safety developments, and working with management to develop screening protocols.
  • Teaching supervisors, managers, and other leaders in the company about health and safety standards and presenting safety training sessions to the company.
  • Ensuring compliance with OSHA, Federal/State regulations, and handling risk assessments to gather information on safety issues.
  • Analyzing health and safety data and reviewing and recommending changes to regular activities.
  • Writing reports, responding to inquiries and concerns, and determining that each department is following regulations.

Construction Safety Manager Skills and Qualifications

A successful Construction Safety Manager candidate will have a strong understanding of the policies and procedures governing health and safety in the Construction industry. They will need to be a problem-solver, a critical-thinker and have both expert management and sales skills. In addition to being familiar with OSHA regulations, they are also familiar with safety related issues that can impact their clients, and most importantly, their crews working in the field. Other relevant skills and qualifications include:

  • Understanding of relevant health and safety regulations and guidelines, and familiarity with terms and policies of the Construction industry.
  • Sound judgment, decision-making skills, good written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to influence strategy and collaborate with company leadership, comfortable multi-tasking, working under pressure, and managing tight timelines.
  • First aid, CPR and any other relevant medical training.
  • Ideal candidates have experience of five to ten years in conducting risk assessments, managing a team, teaching first aid, and ensuring legal compliance.
