Overview:
This position is part of the ERM Actuarial team within the Enterprise Risk Management department.  ERM is a dynamic function that collaborates with our market segments, shared solutions, and senior leadership to further the company’s ERM objectives.   The ERM Actuarial team provides leadership, along with quantitative and qualitative analysis, in support of Securian’s financial risk management, capital management, ERM governance, and risk reporting. 

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Lead Securian Financial’ s Own Risk & Solvency Assessment (ORSA)

  •   Lead development and production of annual ORSA report, including cross-functional collaboration with key stakeholders and presentation of results to senior management  
  •   Manage Securian’s risk tolerance framework, ensuring alignment with strategic initiatives, capital objectives and risk appetite.  Ensure appropriate methodologies, calibration, and action plans.
  •   Lead annual stress testing to ensure risk exposures remain within Securian’s Risk Appetite​

    Provide actuarial leadership in support of Securian Financial’ s ERM governance​

  •   Lead monitoring of ERM best practices, leveraging external sources to assess emerging trends, tools, and strategies, and recommend and drive enhancements to Securian’s ERM framework
  •   Collaborate with key stakeholders and ERM Governance groups to manage Securian’s risk inventory.
  •   Lead development and implementation of Climate Risk management framework
  •   Chair Emerging Risk Management Committee in support of identification and management of emerging risks
  •   Serve on ERM Governance Group(s), providing analysis, communicating ideas, and advocating for ERM perspective

    Provide actuarial leadership in support of ERM projects and initiatives

  •   Provide leadership in support or ERM initiatives including operational and financial risks, capital, and governance
  •   Coordinate ERM engagement in Goals & Plans
  •   Support market segment and shared solutions initiatives, providing analysis, ERM expertise, and ensuring alignment with our risk appetite

    Qualifications:

  •   Strong creative, analytical and problem-solving skills to analyze information and form recommendations
  •   Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with wide range of associates across the organization
  •   Decision-making skills and ability to act independently. 
  •   High degree of initiative and ability to identify ideas and define and complete projects which meet the objectives of the department, division, and enterprise.
  •   Ability to assess the big picture and complete detailed analysis, and the ability to understand when each is required
  •   Ability to handle confidential information appropriately
  •   Self-motivated and flexible; ability both to work independently and to work with and receive direction from a variety of individuals
  •   Adaptable in a rapidly changing environment and respond to changing priorities Ability to work direct other associates

    Preferred Qualifications:

  •   ASA designation
  •   Working knowledge of ERM concepts
  •   Demonstrated leadership experience

    Physical Job Requirements:

  •   Ability to utilize keyboard, mouse and computer for up to 8 hours per day
  •   Ability to work at least 40 hours per week
  •   Ability to utilize telephone for 2-4 hours per day
  •   Ability to perform grasping tasks 2-4 hours per day
