As the Product Owner you will lead product vision and delivery with an Agile team focused on the Claims journey.  You will need to understand, advocate for, and prioritize business value, the customer and/or associate experience, and tools to serve business functions across multiple platforms and solutions. The team will be empowered and accountable to drive specific business and technology outcomes such as executing business strategy, increasing business operational efficiency, retiring legacy systems, and aligning tactical decisions with strategic architectural principles.

This Product Owner position is being hired for one of two Claims Agile teams and will be responsible for integrating claims-related solutions with unique customer journeys across Affinity Solutions (US and Canada), Employee Benefit Solutions, and Individual Solutions, as well as supporting the Claims Professional associate experience.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  •   Partnering with stakeholders and customers across the organization to inform the product vision, strategy, features, and prioritization.
  •   Act as the liaison between the product team and business on products changes, collaborating closely with both groups to ensuring there is clear understanding of what features are needed in the product/application.
  •   Developing, owning, and executing product roadmap with a focus on measurable outcomes, tracks and regularly shares progress with stakeholders and team.
  •   Defining KPIs then monitoring and reporting on business and customer metrics/outcomes for the product.
  •   Collaborates with internal business lines and Enterprise Technology to elicit, analyze and understand needs, constraints, risks, and alignment with organizational strategy and priorities.
  •   Engages and collaborates with team and stakeholders to create and manage Agile artifacts (e.g. Product Roadmap, Backlog, Release Plan) and information needed for prioritization decision-making and regularly assesses features and costs to determine whether and when to proceed. Responsible for accepting product deliverables.
  •   Prioritizing and maintaining the sprint backlog for assigned products, balancing the requirements of stakeholders.
  •   Working in an Agile environment and continuously reviews the business needs, refines priorities, outlines milestones and deliverables, and identifies opportunities and risks.
  •   Cultivate and maintain an effective relationship with all Stakeholders, and help the business create requirements for changes/improvements.


  •   Strategic thinker, analytical, and results driven.
  •   Leadership skills to gain credibility, garner respect, guide the creation of a self-organizing team and be assertive with business priorities and opposing viewpoints while adhering to Agile concepts and principles.
  •   Working knowledge of Agile practices. Understands the fundamentals of iterative development, incremental delivery, backlog management, burn down metrics, velocity and task definition.
  •   Strong communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills to connect and engage team, facilitate discussion, advocate for team and negotiate with business/corporate areas, mentor/coach team members, and resolve conflict.
  •   Ability to work with minimal direction, flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities and schedules, handle multiple issues simultaneously, and to manage stressful situations.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  •   Experience with insurance products or employee benefits programs.
  •   Experience with claims, underwriting risk selection, and/or customer enrollment technology.
  •   2 - 5  years experience as a product owner with the ability to demonstrate realized business value and outcomes.

    **This position will be in a hybrid working arrangement.**

    Physical job requirements:

  •   Ability to utilize keyboard, mouse and computer for up to 8 hours per day
  •   Ability to work at least 40 hours per week
  •   Ability to utilize telephone for up to 8 hours per day
  •   Ability to perform grasping tasks throughout the entire work day (examples: handwriting, grasping of equipment/machines, paper manipulation, sorting, folding, handling stacks of paper)
