The University of Alberta and College of Health Sciences invites applications for the appointment of Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Serving as Alberta's sole pharmacy school since 1914, the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences has held consistent rankings among the top three institutions in Canada, top 50 globally, and top 15 for global research (QS rankings by subject – citations per paper).

The faculty is home to 550 undergraduates, 50 graduate students, and a community of 5,279 living alumni. With 65 faculty and staff, 487 preceptors based in 66 communities, and significant collaboration across the university, the faculty works to support the profession through a focus on excellence in teaching and research across all aspects of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences. The Faculty offers the following programs to students: Entry to Practice Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), PharmD for Practicing Pharmacists, Master of Business Administration and Doctor or Pharmacy (Combined Degrees), MSc and PhD, and a Certificate to Canadian Pharmacy Practice.

Reporting to the Vice-Provost and College Dean, College of Health Sciences, the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences will work with a team of two Associate Deans and is responsible for the leadership and administration of all aspects of the operations of the Faculty, including budget and fund development. In addition to the role of senior officer of the Faculty, and a member of Deans’ Council, the Dean is a senior administrator of the University. The Dean fosters an environment in which world-leading research and excellence in teaching and engaged scholarship flourish. As the face of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Dean is champion of curricular initiatives, research, and scholarship, professional training, global outreach, and recruitment of high-quality faculty and student talent.  The Dean cultivates an environment in which students, faculty and staff thrive.

As Dean, you will have an earned Doctorate or equivalent in a relevant field and qualifications commensurate with an appointment at the rank of Professor. It would be an asset to be a licenced pharmacist. In addition, you are a distinguished scholar who has maintained an active program of scholarly enquiry while holding a senior-level administrative position within an academic environment. You will be a dynamic and visionary leader with a demonstrated track record of fostering a culture of collegiality and collaboration within a university environment for faculty, staff, and students. With an authentic and demonstrated commitment to, understanding of, and experience leading equity, diversity, and inclusion practices and Indigenous engagement, the successful candidate will drive change and inspire faculty, students, staff, and community partners.

The college includes 6 faculties (Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation, Medicine and Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Public Health, and Rehabilitation Medicine), more than 770 faculty members, and more than 7,200 undergraduate and graduate students.

This position is a full-time, continuing appointment and offers a comprehensive benefits package found at Faculty & Staff Benefitsand an annual salary of 250,000 to 340,000.
