Director of Student Involvement and Connections

Looking to make an impact on the student experience at Western New England University? The Director of Student Involvement and Connections position offers the opportunity to help students grow and develop as engaged members of the campus community. As a result of participating in the Office’s programs and interacting with its staff, students should learn to be agile, to persist in achieving their goals, and to understand and communicate how their particular strengths and skills create value in the world.

The Director is responsible for the overall management of the Office of Student Involvement and Connections including but not limited to supervision of professional and paraprofessional student staff; strategic planning and operational implementation; assessment and communication; budget planning, prioritization, and management; and collaboration within and beyond the Division of Student Affairs.

In alignment with the University strategic plan and goals of the Division of Student Affairs, the Office of Student Involvement and Connections will provide opportunities in the areas of leadership development, civic engagement, programming and club/organization engagement. The Director will provide direction and support in the creation, design and successful implementation and evaluation of programs and initiatives that support students’ success, retention and fosters a sense of community at the University.

Education: A Master’s degree is required, with a concentration in student personnel, higher education administration, counseling or a related field. Direct experience and demonstrated leadership within Student Activities, Leadership Development and Campus Center Operations (Student Affairs in general) is preferred.

Experience: The ideal candidate will have knowledge of pertinent student development theories; ability and interest in event planning and on-site supervision of programs; knowledge of emergency preparedness and risk management; contract negotiation; demonstrated ability to work in collaboration with staff in other University departments and members of the faculty in order to achieve goals and objectives in support of the University’s mission statement and strategic plan.

Skills: The ideal candidate will have exceptional communication skills and be able to communicate both orally and in writing with a variety of University constituents such as but not limited to, entertainment vendors, parents and community partners; ability to work with and mentor a diverse staff that includes professional, graduate and undergraduate student employees; competence with using computer hardware and software, especially social media platforms.
