SUMMARY

USA for UNHCR is seeking a highly motivated and experiencedPlanned Giving Officer (PGO) to join our dynamic PrivatePhilanthropy team. As a PGO, you will play a crucial role inbuilding and maintaining relationships with planned giving donorsand prospects to secure significant future financial support forUNHCR's humanitarian efforts worldwide. Reporting to the SeniorManager, Planned Giving, you will contribute to the organization'smission of providing life-saving assistance and protection torefugees and displaced persons around the globe.

The Planned Giving team at USA for UNHCR has an aggressive3-year plan to secure a significant number of hand-raisers(substantively interested prospects for planned giving) to grow theplanned giving program into a mature and predictable revenue streamfor UNHCR. The PGO manages a qualified portfolio of individualplanned gift donors/prospects, works in collaboration with the teamto meet the team hand-raiser goal, and contributes toward thePrivate Philanthropy team revenue goal through the stewardship andadministration of realized bequests.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Moves individual planned giving donors and prospects throughthe stages of engagement through in-person visits, videoconferencing, and telephone calls.
  • Works collaboratively with the Major Gift team to provideservice and information to donors and prospects during blended giftopportunities.
  • Works in conjunction with Senior Manager, Planned Giving andDirector of Pipeline Development to identify potential planned giftdonors and secure interest in legacy giving in new and existingrelationships.
  • Updates CRM (currently Salesforce) with contact reports,engagement plans and tasks to ensure continuity of donor managementand accurate tracking toward goals.
  • Works with the Senior Associate, Legacy Giving to createdonor-centered stewardship communications and engagementopportunities for hand-raisers.
  • Identifies/secures opportunities to raise visibility of andsecure support for USA for UNHCR through increased relationshipswith wealth management and philanthropic advising firms, as well asbusiness and philanthropic leaders.
  • Take on other tasks as directed by the Senior Manager, PlannedGiving and  Senior Director, Private Philanthropy.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

  • 8 years of related experience; Bachelor’s degree.
  • In lieu of education/degree requirements a successful candidatewill
    • Understand how to collaborate effectively with a variety ofdifferent people and roles.
    • Be proactive and self-motivated with a strong mindset andwilling to take risks, while also having the ability to learn fromsetbacks.
    • Be relationship driven and adaptable to new situations.

  • Demonstrates passion for U4U’s mission.
  • Knowledge of principles of frontline fundraising in plannedgiving, including donor motivations and the predominant financialvehicles used to make planned gifts (CGAs, IRAs, etc.)
  • Understanding of planned giving cultivation strategies and howthey differ from major giving strategies.
  • Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonalskills
  • Ability to synthesize complex programs and projects intoconcise, compelling proposals and donor communication assets.
  • Proven project management skills
  • Outstanding self-motivational skills
  • Proficiency in CRM (Salesforce preferred) and Microsoft Office(Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of international humanitarian issues and/orexperience working in the refugee or development sector isdesirable.
  • Must be self-sufficient and self-motivated
  • Demonstrates sound judgement and strong decision-makingskills
  • Demonstrates emotional intelligence and integrity wheninteracting with employees, peers and donors
  • Must be able to work successfully, both individually and aspart of a team

  • Some travel required – up to 40% in support of donoroutreach
  • Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy certification, CertifiedSpecialist in Planned Giving certification or Experience infinancial services sector preferred

WORK LOCATION  

Hybrid + New York, NY + May also involve travel to somelocations within the company’s region of operations and selectdonor locations. 

COMPENSATION 

$116,359 – $126,937
