Regional Sales Director, Middle Market

Position Summary:

This position generates institutional group life and accidental death sales in the employer market targeting employers under 7,500 lives in our Group National Sales Office. This is accomplished through initiating/maintaining relationships with several channel partners, technology platforms and employers in an assigned territory.  The role includes prospecting and generating requests for proposals from these channels and working successfully with the Regional Sales Vice Presidents and other Group division units to generate and ultimately secure sales from these proposals.

The sales focus is on large, sophisticated employers with complex benefits and financial needs. A consultative approach is emphasized, using creativity, flexibility & persuasion to develop and communicate a customized group life program for each client.


  •   Proven successful sales experience & demonstrated ability to secure sales in the mid to large case market.
  •   Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and enthusiasm to develop strategies, develop and nurture channel partner relationships and remain committed to the sales cycle.
  •   Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively make formal presentations, interact and maintain relationships with channel partners, direct prospects, and internal shared solution partners.
  •   Strong persuasion and negotiation skills to overcome objections and hurdles in the sales process and secure the sale.
  •   Strong problem-solving skills and timely decision-making skills to resolve consultant and prospective client concerns.
  •   Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  •   Ability to travel 35-50%.
  •   Location of this position will be in the Western half of the U.S.
  •   Ability to pass life/health licensing exams within 60 days of hire.

    Physical job requirements:

  •   Ability to utilize keyboard, mouse and computer for up to 8 hours per day
  •   Ability to work at least 40 hours per week
  •   Ability to utilize telephone for up to 8 hours per day
  •   Ability to perform grasping tasks throughout the entire work day
  •   Ability to meet the physical demands of travel - approximately once each quarter. This includes the ability to operate a motor vehicle as well as an ability to utilize air travel
  •   Ability to be mobile periodically throughout entire workday
