Position Summary
The Department of Communication Studies in the College of LiberalArts & Education at University of Detroit Mercy seeksapplicants for a tenure-track position in digital journalism at therank of assistant professor. The position will begin August 15,2023.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The chosen candidate will have college-level teaching experienceand expertise in one or more of the following: journalism, digitalmedia, web development, graphic design, computer animation, newsproduction, emerging media, or interactive or immersive media.Advanced knowledge in relevant software applications (such as AdobeCreative Cloud) is desirable. The candidate will have a Ph.D. or aterminal degree in journalism or a related communication field,with relevant professional experience and a demonstrated ability towork with students and colleagues.

The chosen candidate will teach undergraduate courses in digitaljournalism, with the opportunity to develop course offerings. Theideal candidate will teach news writing and reporting, multimediajournalism, media ethics, as well as media literacy, and will haveexperience producing journalism across various digital platforms.The candidate will serve as the faculty advisor for theaward-winning student newspaper, The Varsity News. Otherresponsibilities will include academic advising and mentoring ofcommunication majors, scholarship in field of expertise, an activerole in curriculum development and assessment, and managingclassroom equipment and resources. We seek a person enthusiasticabout working in Detroit, contributing to the city's continuedrebirth, and fostering the creative growth of undergraduatestudents at a liberal arts university located in a vibrant urbancontext and committed to building community through diversepartnerships.
