Who we are looking for The Vancouver Housing Authority is seeking a Staff Accountant to oversee financial reporting of development and operations of VHA affordable housing portfolio and various grant contracts. The Staff Accountant provides accurate and reliable financial information and analysis to internal and external users according to industry standards and VHA requirements.
What you'll do Oversight of Affordable Housing Development and Financial Reporting Function: • Administers project financing activities to ensure compliance with funding programs, policies, rules, and regulations. May include low-income housing tax credits, tax exempt bonds, and federal and state loans and grants. • Prepares and manages financial models related to existing and proposed real estate developments and major renovations, including assessment of feasibility of proposed projects. • Prepares project budgets and operating projections, maintains financial tracking of developments under construction. Monitors construction activities for compliance with budget. • Collaborates with accounting firms to prepare cost certifications and coordinates other project closeout tasks with lenders, investors, Washington State Housing Finance Commission and other funders. • Prepares and analyses property operating reports; producing pro-forma statements and other cost analysis reports. • Prepares financial reports and other communication tools for VHA Senior Staff, Executive Team, and Board of Directors and participates in presentations of financial data related to affordable housing development projects for VHA management and Board members. • Participates in VHA annual audit and budgeting functions by preparing various schedules and reports related to development financing. • Maintains and reconciles a variety of accounts, ledgers, reports, and accounting records. • Interprets financial transactions and events for users who must make economic or business decisions as requested. • Records, classifies, and summarizes complex financial transactions and events in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and prepares related journal entries. • Uses various software applications, such as spreadsheets and graphics packages to assemble, manipulate and format data and reports. • Maintains current knowledge and advises VHA staff on best practices and applications of accounting standards and VHA financial policies. • Consistently complies with position and department safety and attendance standards. • Establishes and maintains positive, productive relationships with employees, vendors, and other related contacts.
What we offer • The STARTING SALARY RANGE for this position is $61,068 - $67,175 per year based on experience. The full salary range for this position is $61,068 - $94,094 per year. The final candidate for this position will be paid within the STARTING SALARY RANGE. • Full-time, non-exempt position, working 40 hours per week Monday - Friday. • 100% employer-paid medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance. • Benefits package also includes 10.39% paid into WA PERS by employer, 12 company paid holidays, and generous paid time off and separate sick time accrual. • Meaningful work that addresses affordable housing and homelessness in our community.
What you'll bring • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related subject plus additional two years of education or experience in accounting or related field required.
